Kristine Otero

About

Owning the title of Writer, Kristine bleeds her truth in words as if her life depends on it. Although she has no formal writing education, she gets by. Determined to learn every facet of the process, from editing to publishing, each new piece is an adventure.

In 2015 Kristine wrote a memoir of her military experiences which sits in a folder on her computer because she doesn’t like the first sentence. Hopefully, someday it will be edited and published.

A few years ago, Kristine found her authentic writing voice, and owned it. Her work is often polarizing, unsettling and triggering. Although the bulk of her resume is war related, she knows she is bigger than that topic. In the last year she has begun to write short fiction, and prose poetry.

When Kristine isn’t writing, editing or pitching her work to journals, she is likely hanging out with her animals. Trixy, her dog-sized cat, and Eleanor, her newest edition. She currently lives in Denver Colorado, but that could change at any moment. Absolute refusal to settle for anything less than contentment finds her uprooting everything and searching for that sweet spot.

Her hobbies include wondering if the congregating magpies are ill-intentioned, bad home haircuts, planning everything she will never do, because germaphobia is crippling, and laughing—mostly at herself. Kristine credits her sanity to her small circle of support and years of therapy.

A few uninteresting labels that Kristine wears: liberal, lesbian, and combat veteran.
